I love how insects (and birds!) become the voice of place through MI’s soundscape compositions. The recordings are also delightfully mysterious; it’s a lot of fun to try to guess the sources of the sounds MI brings to our ears. A great followup for those who enjoyed the fantastic documentary film _Beetle Queen Conquers Tokyo_ about Japanese cultural attitudes towards insects.

The recording locations of this work are Nakanoshima Park, Tenjinbashi, Sakuranomiya Park in Osaka, Japan. There are rows of cherry trees, rivers, ponds, lotus flowers on swamps, boat dock, railroads, and small forests. I visit this place often. The expression is rich depending on the season. It was a very hot summer day in August 2020. I brought in a small recording set (digital recorder, tape recorder, etc.) and worked on the go. There are so many different creatures living there. Feel the sounds of birds, insects, fish, and trees. One does not hear them all, but many small insects kind of haunted the process.

One time, I had a pretty bad fever and put on this album as background music. It actually calmed me down a bit and I was feeling better afterward. Thanks, Mr Feeney! Pala Hux
